2009 Gay Pride Parade Video 9 of 11

In this video I get yelled at and told I’m going to hell. The protestors thought I was gay. When I told them I wasn’t gay and went to a conservative seminary, I was still told I’m going to hell.

One thing to notice about half way through the video, the guy with the megaphone kept yelling:

“Sick, Sick, Sick”

Does that really work? Maybe it’s just me, but that does absolutely no good—for anyone.

Much love.

And Christ is hanging on that tree saying, "Forgive them, Father, for they do not know what they do."

I think you live a life that hardly anybody else could ever live.

How can they say all are sinners, & then don't think gays can be saved?
Thanks for being there!

hey Andrew, I was moved and inspired by you and your video.

Here is what I posted on my own blog :

Covenant Thinklings
...............
please, please do me a favor and go to Andrew Marin's web site and watch his home video of a gay parade.

make sure you watch it until the end when he weeps and prays.

This guy inspires me and puts me to shame. I honestly don’t know how he does it. Where I get pissed, sullen and sarcastic, he weeps and prays for both communities: Christians and gays, even as the christians are shouting at him and telling him he is going to hell. I would have given them the finger.

I feel humbled and embarrassed at my own wimpy—whinny moods. It is guys like this that will lead us through this kairos moment into agape epochal transition.

Oh Andy, that video hurt so deeply to watch. I've looked at those groups before and thought they were doing right.

By living your life as a testimony in this bridge-building effort, you are teaching me SO much. So much, brother.

Much love,
linda

Andrew,

I just watched this video for the first time. I am weeping. My heart breaks with deep, deep sadness. Thank you for opening up the discussion.

Dave.

Oh man....thanks for posting this. It makes me so upset, especially to think that a lot of that looks like me and looks like most of my ultra-conservative family... The more I follow your blog, and now that I've read your book, I feel like I've got to do something, too. You said you're just one man trying to do something, trying to learn, well, I would safely now say you're not alone. :)

I wonder what it was that caused them to be drawn to Christ??? Was it someone beating them over the head and yelling at them that encouraged THEM to be Christians? I am thinking it probably wasn't. So why would they think that God is calling them to be just plain mean to people to get them to change direction. I am always baffled by this stuff!

I watched this video twice and cried both times. My heart is broken for both LGBT and the Christian community. I don't understand how anyone can watch this and think this is what Jesus would do...I just dont get it. As Christians, we CANNOT tolerate this hate. We have to take a stand to make a change. It is our responsibility to love...let's show it.
